It is so funny to see how some social behaviors are exactly the same between France and the US, and others are completely different. Well, this was a big shock to me when I arrived in the US. I understood of course a man and a woman could be interested in each other in a romantic way, let me reassure you.
One of the very obvious difference is the dating game. But I was not aware that accepting to go out to dinner with a man alone gave the signal that I was possibly romantically interested in him.
It is the case with any rule, but even more so with dating, especially because too many people assume that dating is .
With that being said, I know you’re all dying to know the rules of dating in France… Well, that’s not exactly true, but let’s say that there are much fewer rules than in many other countries, especially the US (as usual, I’ll compare mostly to the US, partly because this is the foreign culture I know the best, partly because most of the readership is American). Asking someone else out in France is not that different from many other places I guess.
I downloaded the app shortly after arriving in Paris, France. Do you simply go to the country, you meet the man, and there you go? Everything in our lives is influenced by our cultures. Especially dating…Ignoring the dating rules of the country you’re in will cause trouble and failures in your dating attempts (yes, I’m sadly talking from experience here, Jennifer, if you read this : “sorry, I misunderstood a few things back in 1998”). The dream of every foreign woman, and a few gay men too…But how make this dream come true? One big mistake a bunch of people make when dealing with love and relationships is to assume that: Wrong! But I would never do that to my Dad who would be very upset if I did. When I meet a man and I am without my husband, I’ll place within the first minutes of the conversation that “my husband blablabla… That usually is enough to make my state of mind really clear.I did the same thing as a girl, talking about my boyfriend (actually existing or not) early on in the conversation. And some people are just not faithful, but contrary to popular opinion, it’s not worse in France than anywhere else (and several studies demonstrate it). It’s in our genes and it’s socially accepted in France.
