This is all great, but how do you go about encouraging people to meet new people and not to just catch up with collaborators? It would, of course, be far too easy to follow a standard speed dating paradigm.How do you help your scientists make useful new connections and learn about potentially helpful new techniques? It’s much more fun to collect data on all of your conference delegates and use scientific clustering methods and network building algorithms to pair up the scientists in attendance based on their keenest interests. Who works with what (‘known methods’, see figure 1)?
Solution: they organize internal Speed-Dating sessions! frog has been growing quite some during the last year (from 600 to 1,500 employees) and one of the drawbacks of this was that it’s staff was not always able to catch up with the newbies joining the team .
Winners will be able to participate in Afric Arena, as well as win tickets and flights sponsored by the companies involved.
About 500 delegates — about half of them international — are expected to participate in the conference, scheduled for November 6 and 7 at the Century City conference centre.
Billed as a "speed dating" forum, the conference will allow start-ups from Africa to attract investors and raise finance, as well as provide investors with an opportunity to find new deals and interesting opportunities.
Tech challenges will be launched by participating companies before the conference so that start-ups can test their expertise within a given time frame.
